Great Basin National Park near Ely Nevada

We would like to visit Great Basin National Park near Ely Nevada the summer of 2024. we have a 38 foot 5th wheel. Looks like all the campgrounds in the park are limited to 28 feet. Even Ward Mountain campground is limited to 28 feet. Any recommendations on a good place to camp/boondocks.

RE: How to handle RV house battery? / sparkles flying

ALWAYS disconnect the ground lug/wire before touching the positive lug.

RE: batteries in the winter

I would keep them plugged to shore power so that they are fully charged. I think (?) SULFATING only happen if less than fully charged and high temp

New to Solar. Conect directly to battery ????

I am completely new to solar panels. I know almost nothing about them. We boondocks and dry camp about 50% of the time in our 5th wheel. We have 2 deep cycle lead acid batteries. When the batteries need recharging, we have a Champion 3100W Inverter Portable Generator that we plug the power cord from the RV into by the use of a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter. I want to add a portable solar panel such as Harbor Freight Underbolt Solar100 Watt Solar Panel Briefcase Harbor Freight 100 watt Can I connect this solar panel directly to my battery with a alligator clips or do I need some type of controller to keep the panel from overcharging my batteries. I think the output of the solar panel is 14 to 22 volts..

RE: Solar inverter -- shore power question

What make and model of inverter do you have? I do not have any solar now. But, the new to us RV that we are thinking about buying has a residential refrigerator. We do a lot of Boondocking or dry camping and the refrigerator may be a deal beaker.

Solar inverter -- shore power question

I am trying to understand a residential refrigerator with solar panels. When I connect to full hookup does the refrigerator continue to run through the inverter or does it bypass the inverter and connect to shore power only? Let me see if I can make my question a little clear. Does the shore power charge the battery than the current flows from the battery to the inverter to the refrigerator? Or when connected to shore power is the inverter automatically disconnected from the circuit. I assume that when connected to shore power, (or a portable generator) the shore power not the solar panels is the primary method charging the battery bank. I also assume that when towing down the road the tow truck alternator and the solar panels are each charging the battery back.

Bedroom cable slide is jerking

2014 3100RL Montana 5th wheel Our bedroom slide is a cable slide. Recently, the slide has been jerking when moving in or out. By jerking, that is to say, the motor runs for a second and then stops for a second -- then runs again then stops. It repeats this stopping and starting until the slide is all the way in or all the way out. There is a loud clicking noise whenever the motors stops. This loud clicking or popping noise sounds is much like the noise the slide makes when it is all the way in or all the way out telling me to stop pushing the button. I first thought was there were the tooth missing on the gears that drives the cable but I cannot find any missing teeth. It first appears the motor actually stops as if an automatic reset relay is tripping and then resetting. I cannot find any relay. I have removed the panel over the bed and attempted to adjust the cables which seem to be adjusted well. With more investigation, the motor does not stop. But the slide stops moving. I think (?) based on the sound that there is a clutch or gear or something near the bottom of the cable that slips when the slide is fully out or fully in. This may be what is slipping and making the stopping and starting action. I don’t know where to find such an item. Any suggestion with pictures is welcome.

RE: campground near Yosemite

It depends on the month and day of the week. If you're coming in on a March or early April and on a Tuesday and arriving at parking before 9 I would just drive in. If a weekend I would take the shuttle. Getting closet to May I would say take a shuttle or Yarts. Even after driving in, TAKE THE SHUTTLE to see the different parts of the park.

Can anyone identify this lake?

Can anyone identify this lake? We’re currently in Lake Louise, Canada. When I was there in 2008 I took a picture of this lake which if I remember correctly was adjacent to the Icefield Parkway in a small turnoff. It is not Lake Louise. I would like to show this lake to my daughter and son-in-law but I cannot remember the name or where is it located. Tips on how to hook up at an extreme angle?

We have a 2014 3100RL Montana with Mor/ride RPB72-1116 king pin with a Demco Autoslide 18K 5th wheel hitch. Last campsite we had to unhook at an 25 to 35 degree angle – the first time for us. When we tried to re-hook we had difficulty connecting the hitch. Any suggestions or tips on how to hook up at an extreme angle?

Hydraulic pump had overheated????

We have a 2014 3100RL Montana 5th wheel with six-point stabilizing jacks. The other day because we had trouble hooking up, we raised and lowered the front of the 5th wheel a number of times. After a while the stabilizing jacks stop working. The relay leading to the hydraulic pump was operating correctly with 12 V on the correct terminals for the up/down terminal as appropriate. After about 10 minutes everything worked okay. It appeared the hydraulic pump had overheated. Is this normal? Is there a manual override?
